Alberto Gonzales and the questionable actions of the white house

I read something on CNN.com today that disturbed me quite a bit.

Alberto Gonzales (attorney general and close friend to the president) is being healed responsible for the firing of eight U.S attorneys. Now this would not bother me as much as it did if I hadn't learned the eight had been fired for no real reason, and now it has been revealed that all 8 republican attorneys had opposing views than the president himself on key issues. It has been speculated that the layoffs were political retribution and a "sweeping of the closet" -so to say.

U.S. attorneys are political appointees who are routinely replaced when a new president takes office, but their removal in the middle of a presidential administration is rare, and this is another reason why this issue is quite disturbing.

The question I ask is, why now? Why these 8? In several interviews Gonzales gave very vague answers saying he charged his chief of staff, Kyle Sampson, with determining "where we could do better" and apparently that meant the firing of the 8. No real reason has been given as to why they were fired.

If it is indeed political retribution it worries me that the president wants to have a congress of political appointees who "obey" what his agenda is and if anyone has any objections, epically in his own party, will be fired due to the fact that the president "could do better" in the field of U.S attorneys.

If ever any speculation were to rise in my mind about the president and his agenda for this country, this issue would deffinately leave me questioning to motives of the president. I cannot help but wonder if the president is more concerned with polital agendas and not that of the people.
